Passports And Visa Advice

Every single traveller will be required to have a valid, in-date passport as a minimum to travel on our school trips. In addition to passports, on some occasions, a visa or supporting documentation will be needed to enter the countries Discover the World Education operate in. You may also be required to obtain a transit visa if you transit via another country to reach your destination.

The travel documents required for your trip can vary based on itineraries and individual situations, therefore it is the responsibility of the individual or group leader to source the correct visas or supporting information. Discover the World Education offers no refunds for passengers who do not obtain their required and correct documents in time.

It is the responsibility of the traveller to check with their own embassy or consulate in regards to visa applications and supporting documents. To source more information and to help determine if a visa is required for your trip visit International Air Transport Association (IATA) here.

We also recommend requesting a photocopy of the information page of each group member’s passport when you collect first deposits. Therefore you will have time to personally check them to ensure that the required information is correct (especially that the passport will be valid and in-date at the time of travel) and foresee if the individual will need to obtain a visa.

Dual Passport Holders

If a traveller holds two different nationality passports, depending on the departing country and the visiting country, the traveller may not be required to obtain a visa.

For example, a US citizen travelling to Italy who holds both passports would use their passports as follows:

*The flights would need to be booked using the Italian (EU) passport details*

Outbound Flight:

  1. Check-in: Traveller would use their Italian (EU) passport to prove they are entitled to enter Italy
  2. Passport control on departure from the USA: Traveller would use their USA passport to prove they have been entitled to be in the USA
  3. Passport control on arrival in Italy: Italian (EU) passport to prove they are entitled to enter Italy

Return Flight:

  1. Check-in: USA Passport to prove they are entitled to enter the USA
  2. Passport Control on departure from Italy: Italian/EU passport to prove they have been entitled to have been in Italy
  3. Passport control on arrival in USA: USA passport to prove they are entitled to enter the USA

Again, it is still the responsibility of the dual passport holder to check if they need a visa or supporting documents for their trip. Discover the World Education offers no refunds for passengers who do not obtain their required and correct documents in time. For more information, we advise you to visit International Air Transport Association (IATA) here.
