Sète: Supérieur Trip France

5 Days

Sète is the perfect destination for students to absorb the French language. The maritime town sits on the south coast and is interspersed with wide canals flanked by colourful harbourfront houses and crisscrossed by bridges.

Locally known as the ‘Venice of Languedoc’, Sète encompasses every aspect you need for a successful language trip, from art galleries to the Les Halles (food market). Thanks to Sète’s smaller size, your students can chat to charming locals in French about their hometown.

Our team of travel specialists and former MFL teachers know the importance of real-world learning when it comes to languages. That’s why our itineraries step away from the general and focus on providing unique activities that encourage engagement with locals and learning through fun activities that allow students to explore a region’s unique culture and diversity.

Throughout your trip, a specialist Local Language School Tour Leader will guide you, leading engaging activities, to meet your learning objectives. Your students will also benefit from our various pedagogical activities. These on-the-go sessions provide the ultimate classroom without walls, allowing your students to engage in targeted workshops and tailored teaching in local settings, all with an enhanced educational focus. With a maximum ratio of 15:1, your students have every opportunity to deepen their learning and build their confidence in real-world settings.

The following itinerary has been curated by former MFL teachers, but it can be adapted to your learning goals and budget.

Sète boat trip and guided tour

Bienvenue! After arriving in Montpellier, you will be welcomed by your Language School Tour Leader who will be accompanying you throughout your trip.

After checking into your accommodation, take to the canals for a boat tour. With French commentary, students will take in the city’s most iconic sights such as the Pointe Courte port and the Canal Royal. The unique boats are designed to pass under the city’s low bridges for a complete tour of the canals.

This afternoon includes a guided city tour of Sète. Here, you’ll learn about the canals, visit the fishing port and marvel at the street art. The tour is in French giving students a chance to practice listening and understanding.

After dinner, live like a local and play pétanque. This classic French game allows students to improve their technique whilst socialising and improving their language skills.

Musee de la Mer and street art tour

You’ll start the day with a language workshop at Lingua Sète. Your lesson will be tailored to the day’s activity so that your students can practice their new vocabulary in a real-life scenario.

After lunch, you’ll visit the Musee de la Mer. The museum traces the history of the port of Sète since the 18th century and houses an extraordinary collection of model boats by André Aversa. Here, you’ll pick up some new vocabulary and get an understanding of Sète’s history.

Carry on to MACO, an open-air museum. During this street art trail, wander through the rustic streets of the town. When you arrive at each piece of artwork, you can read the information guide to discover more about it.

Start the day with a trip to Les Halles food market where you’ll browse the fresh produce from fresh fish and locally grown fruit and vegetables. This is the perfect opportunity for your students to use their newly learnt French skills and experience Sète’s culinary delights!

This pedagogical activity helps students build their French speaking and listening skills by chatting with stall owners. Having practiced this in previous role play classroom workshops, this allow students to bring what they’ve learnt into a real-life situation.

Next, your students will enjoy an improvisation theatre workshop where they’ll learn conversational techniques and practice speaking in French while thinking on their feet!

See how a French kitchen works in the hustle and bustle at Palanquee Canteen. Your Language School Tour Leader will host a workshop that covers vocabulary around cooking customs, following recipes and catering jobs in a real canteen setting. You’ll get to taste some traditional delicious French delicacies too!

Hopefully, you’ll have saved some room after lunch because you’ll be learning how to cook Zézettes. Students will learn to roll, knead, and bake these biscuits which are a local speciality while improving their listening and understanding skills as this delicious workshop is delivered in French.

Afterwards, get better acquainted with the city during a two-hour Treasure Hunt that uncovers Sète’s secrets. This fun activity gives your students opportunities to read and speak French.
