Bordeaux offers an exceptional destination for a French language school trip, blending linguistic immersion with rich cultural experiences. Known for its historic architecture, vibrant arts scene, and world-renowned wine industry, Bordeaux provides a perfect backdrop for students to engage in real-world learning. The linguistic activities have been specifically chosen by our MFL teachers to provide an authentic context, ensuring students not only improve their French skills but also deepen their appreciation for French culture.

The region's culinary delights will further enrich your students’ educational journey. Savour local specialties like canelés, a traditional pastry, and enjoy guided tours of local markets, where students can practice conversational skills with vendors. This combination of cultural and linguistic activities ensures students return home with improved language skills and unforgettable memories of their French adventure.

Our team of travel specialists and former MFL teachers know the importance of real-world learning when it comes to languages. That’s why our itineraries step away from the general and focus on providing unique activities that encourage engagement with locals and learning through fun activities that allow students to explore a region’s unique culture and diversity.

Throughout your trip, a specialist language school tour leader will guide you, leading engaging activities, and ensuring that your key learning objectives are met. Your students will also benefit from our various pedagogical activities. These on-the-go sessions provide the ultimate classroom without walls, allowing your students to engage in targeted workshops and tailored teaching in local settings, all with an enhanced educational focus. With a maximum ratio of 15:1, your students have every opportunity to deepen their learning and build their confidence in real-world settings.

Day 1

As you fly into Bordeaux, you will have a fantastic view of the city, the Garonne River, and rich vineyards and agricultural land that surrounds it.

Travelling the short journey into the city centre, you will notice how the buildings get denser, older, and more characteristic of the city’s architectural style. After dropping your bags off at the hotel, you’ll be met by your language school tour leader. Local to the area and an expert in both languages and the region’s cultural heritage, they will join you for the trip to ensure that students get the most out of their time in France.

Now, get better acquainted with Bordeaux with a tour of the city. You’ll visit key landmarks and see how the locals live. Discover iconic locations like the historic centre, the parks, the gardens, Place des Quinconces, Le Miroir d’Eau, Place de la Bourse, the Cathédrale Saint-André, and climb Pey Berland Tower.

With 362 historic monuments, Bordeaux is a brilliant destination for students to discover its architectural and cultural heritage. Using their local knowledge, your language school tour leader will guide you through the city, providing fascinating insights and French commentary that is adapted to suit the abilities of your class.

Day 2

Start the day with a 1-hour workshop at the Newdeal language school. This will be tailored to today’s activities and will ensure that everyone is confident and ready to make the most of the pedagogical activities ahead.

Putting their new vocabulary to the test at Bordeaux’s famous markets, students will practice their conversational skills as they converse with the local vendors. Your language school tour leader will set a series of tasks for each group, and encourage them to barter with the vendors, ask questions, complete a shopping list, and sample some of the region’s produce.

Not only will this boost their confidence, it’ll also inspire curiosity about new foods they may not have tried. At the market, they can also pick up a memento from their trip.

After a packed lunch, you’ll experience a French cooking workshop. Discover more about Bordeaux’s culture through your taste buds as your students learn cooking techniques, taste new ingredients and prepare classic dishes like cannelés, crepes, or quiches. Using their vocabulary from the morning workshop, students can direct the cooking instructions and better understand the connections between cooking and language.

Day 3

Today, your group will explore the beautiful Atlantic seaside resort of Arcachon, famous for oysters and its stunning coastal setting.

The town is divided into four quarters, each named after the seasons: Ville d’Été, covering the touristic centre, main beach, restaurants and boutiques. Ville d’Hiver – the historic centre adorned with glamorous 19th-century villas. Ville de Printemps in the west is closer to the most beautiful and less crowded beaches of Arcachon and Ville d’Automne is the beautiful port area packed with great fish restaurants.

While in Arcachon, be sure to take a trip to Dune de Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe at 110m in height. Flanked by the sea on one side and a forest on the other, this dune creates a unique landscape with fantastic views over the area.

Day 4

Your morning will begin with a two-hour language workshop at Newdeal. This is a great opportunity for students to brush up on the key phrases and vocabulary that they are unsure of, or simply to practice and gain more confidence. Working with your language school tour leader, you can decide on the most crucial topics or techniques to focus on.

After your lunch break, it’s time for a fun learning activity. Board game Olympics is a pedagogical activity where groups of students rotate around three or four different board games, all competing to win points for their team. Following an initial activity to learn the key French terms and phrases, they must play the games in French to win. Students will learn through fun and repetition, and the winning group may be awarded a delicious local treat.

Finish the day with a game of pétanque. The classic French game will allow students to improve their technique, socialise, and to have fun improving their French!
