As teachers ourselves, we know your time is valuable, so we focus on giving you clear, honest quotes from the outset.

With its rich cultural legacy, tropical climate, and golden sandy beaches, MFL students will love Almuñécar’s inviting environment. Located on Spain's Costa Tropical, this tranquil town allows students to safely explore and apply their classroom knowledge in authentic scenarios, engaging with the hospitable local community. Popular amongst Spanish holidaymakers but almost unheard of by international tourists, Almuñécar is ideal for escaping the English tongue and practicing with native speakers.

As specialists and former MFL teachers, we know how important it is for students to experience real-world learning in a real-life context, and so our itineraries make this a key priority. We also ensure that students discover a region’s culture through insightful activities to better understand how the people, the language, the history, and the traditions work harmoniously together.

Throughout your trip, a specialist local Language School Tour Leader will guide you, leading engaging activities, and ensuring that your key learning objectives are met. Your students will also benefit from our various pedagogical activities. These on-the-go sessions provide the ultimate classroom without walls, allowing your students to engage in targeted workshops and tailored teaching in local settings, all with an enhanced educational focus. With a maximum ratio of 15:1, your students have every opportunity to deepen their learning and build their confidence in real-world settings.

Almuñécar’s lively festivals, traditional culinary experiences, and the nearby historic treasures of Granada offer a well-rounded and immersive cultural adventure. We will create a personalised itinerary that is tailored to meet your core MFL learning objectives. Below is an example of what your students can enjoy on a 4-day, 3-night trip to Almuñécar.

1

Walking tour of Almuñécar and team games on the tropical coast

As soon as you land in Málaga, the sun and warmth of the region’s climate will give you a taste of what’s to come.

Students will travel along the coast to Almuñécar to get settled in at the hotel before meeting the local Language School Tour Leader. They’ll then take the students on a guided tour around the town, highlighting its unique character, its important industries, its traditions, and how the people live in this area of Spain. With commentary given in Spanish, students can practice their comprehension skills and ask questions to find out more about what they see. The commentary will be adapted to best suit the abilities of the group.

Your day will then finish with some fun team games on the beach. The beautiful sandy beaches will provide the perfect setting for some group bonding and friendly competition.

Day

2

Shopping in the market, visit to the castle and a sub-tropical farm

Day two begins at Almuñécar’s market for a fun, pedagogical activity. Selling a large variety of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and other local delicacies, students will gain an insight into the diets of people in this region, and the produce that is grown and sold here. Working with the Language School Tour Leader, groups of students will talk with the vendors, practice their currency and purchasing phrases, and maybe even barter the price down to complete a shopping list. This will help boost their confidence and build resilience as they walk away with a delicious treat.

Your Language School Tour Leader will then take you on a guided tour, with a historical insight into Almuñécar’s past, at the famous Castillo de San Miguel. Sitting atop a small hill overlooking the town, this impressive castle shows evidence for multiple periods of occupation and highlights the rich and varied history of this region. From the Romans and Phoenicians to the Arabs, your Language School Tour Leader will explain the history with Spanish commentary adapted to your group’s abilities. Be sure to ask about this region’s historical ties to Europe and North Africa, and how that has influenced its culture and architecture today.

After lunch, students will spend the second half of the day on a short coach journey to nearby La Herraadura. For a deeper dive into the region’s food and climate, students will visit the subtropical farm known as Finca San Ramón. Adapted to this region’s unique tropical microclimate, this farm produces a wide variety of fruit and vegetables all year round that is unique to this part of southern Spain. Students will also learn about sustainability and how the farm uses low-irrigation techniques to produce their crops. As they venture around, they’ll pick some produce and sample some of the delicious produce.

Day

3

Aquaduct walk, tapas making workshop and Salsa dance class

Today begins at the TCL language school with a Spanish language workshop to further develop students’ abilities and understanding. This workshop will pay close attention to the different scenarios that your students have and will experience, and what type of conversations these real-world settings will entail. It’ll also provide much of the key vocabulary and phrases that the students can use and answer any questions that they might have.

To see out the morning, your Language School Tour Leader will take you on a guided walk along the aqueduct route. Originally built by the Romans in the first century, these aqueducts were used to transport water to the thriving fish salting factory. The most impressive is the 72m long Aqueduct III, located around 1 mile from the town centre. With commentary given in Spanish, students are encouraged to ask questions in Spanish to find out more about the Roman occupation of the area, and the unique archaeological sites they are finding here.

To explore Spain’s distinct gastronomy, students will experience a tapas workshop. With a wide variety of traditional dishes available, including Spanish omelette, gazpacho, and paella, students will ask questions and provide cooking instructions in Spanish as a way of learning about the cooking techniques and flavours used. This will certainly be a great activity to excite their tastebuds as they taste a rich variety of delicious tapas.

To see out the day, students will put their best foot forward for an exciting Bachata and Salsa dance workshop. With expert guidance from a local professional, students will learn about the rhythms of these traditional musical styles, and the basic steps that go into the dances. This is also a great cultural insight into how Spain’s influence spread overseas and was adapted by Latin culture.
