We’ve compiled a list of eco-friendly ideas to help  your students feel empowered to minimise their environmental impact during their next school trip…

1. Sponsored Veganism Challenge

Meat farming is one of the biggest causes of deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions. Many experts say that one of the most significant individual contributions we can make to the environment is reducing our consumption of meat.

When making a lifestyle change it is always good to do this as a team and encourage some competition, so why not use a veganism challenge as a way to raise sponsorship money for a green charity or for your carbon offsetting funds.

2. Donate your old electronic devices to be recycled

Every family has a draw of forgotten electronics. Ask your class to collect old mobile phones, tablets etc and send to one of the many companies that offer funds in exchange for these devices.

3. Fair trade bake sale

This is not just your traditional school cake sale! Instead students will be challenged to use fair trade sugar, chocolate, coffee, bananas, nuts etc in their tasty treats.

4. Culture Day

A great excuse for a day of celebration!

Ask your students (and teachers) to share an element of their culture. This may include music, dance, art, food or traditions.

In the theme of Responsible Travel, you could also encourage students to share what they have learned about cultures they have visited.

4. Litter Picking

Team up in small groups and support your local community with a litter collection! Bring a bucket and ask the neighbours to donate spare change as you go.

Make sure you geotag your litter pickups >

5. Green fingers

If your school is lucky enough to have a garden, why not turn this into an eco-enterprise for your students?

Whether you grow flowers, vegetables or herbs, this is a great way to get students involved.

6. Second Hand Clothes Sale

Combat the problem of disposable fashion with a second hand clothes sale.

If you get some particularly interesting vintage pieces, encourage your students to hold a fashion show to drum up interest.
