Take time to explore Vestaralen, an archipelago of several islands interconnected by bridges making it the perfect destination for those who seek leisurely drives, peace and relaxation.

Still relatively undiscovered and with most towns and villages hugging the coastline, the interior is wild and wonderful with marshlands and lowlands overlooked by majestic peaks and ocean vistas. Island hop and go whale watching in Andenes, drive to the end of the road to Hovden beach, walk the Queen’s trail from Nyksund to Stø and visit the birthplace of the famous Hurtigruten.

With imposing landscapes, rich wildlife and a history beginning as far back as the stone age experience the authentic and untouched Norway and delve into the treasure trove of wow moments and memories for life.

Itinerary

On arrival in Evenes collect your rental vehicle from the airport and drive north, crossing the Tjelsund Bridge and passing through Harstad to reach your accommodation on Hinnoya for an overnight stay. This evening take a short drive to Nupen, the perfect place to admire the midnight sun over the blue ocean.

Step back in time and experience authentic Norwegian culture.

Morning at leisure. This afternoon take the ferry from Flesnes to Refsnes on the island of Andoya. At Risøyhamn choose the route along the west coast, one of the 12 Norwegian Scenic Routes. This 58km journey winds from Bjørnskinn in the south to Andenes in the north with highlights including Mount Røyken, the village of Bleik renowned for its puffin safari’s and the longest sand beach in Northern Norway.

Stay in the heart of Andenes.

Visit the whale museum and join a whale watching tour with a chance to see sperm, minke, pilot and humpback whales, as well as harbour porpoises. Alternatively enjoy a puffin safari from the town of Bleik nearby.

Travel south and cross the bridge to the island of Langoya, the largest in the Vesteralen archipelago. Continue to the historic village of Nyksund, a former fishing village with a growing artist community, galleries, studios, and charming harbour with colourful restored wooden houses. Perhaps take a guided tour of the village and enjoy coffee and homemade cake.

Day at leisure in Nyksund for optional activities including hiking the queens trail from Nyksund to Sto, take a boat or fishing tour in a historic fishing vessel or an exciting RIB safari with the chance of spotting seal, eagles and puffin.

Morning at leisure in Nyksund. Drive south to Klakksjorda on the southern tip of Langoya and the Vesteralen Apartments, your home for the next 2 nights.
