Overview

Fly from London to Akureyri for a short break in the capital of North Iceland. Located at the head of the country’s longest fjord, Eyjafjordur, Akureyri has a thriving port and an excellent range of restaurants, cafés and places to stay.

Highlights include the world’s most northerly botanic gardens and an imposing Lutheran church which dominates the skyline, if you can manage the many steps, the views from here over the town and fjord are worth the climb.

During your stay visit Forest Lagoon the newest geothermal baths in Iceland, fed from a hot spring discovered in 2015. The lagoon’s design draws inspiration from nature and in turn is protected naturally by the forest. The trees offer shelter from wind and the ever changing Icelandic weather, helping maintain the infinity pool’s water temperature of 39°C- 42°C.  Bathers can also use the cold pool, sauna, and purchase refreshments from the in water bars.

And to top off your trip, you might also witness the northern lights dancing across the night sky.

Itinerary

The itinerary shown is an example of this holiday. We have other properties and excursions which can be tailored to your requirements. Please discuss with our Travel Specialists who can put together a bespoke itinerary for you.

Arrive in Akureyri and make your own way to your hotel by taxi (payable locally). Akureyri is a vibrant city with a strong sense of community. The capital of North Iceland has a lively arts scene, and is home to several museums and galleries and a Botanical Garden This evening dinner options range from fish and chips to fine Nordic cuisine. Down by the harbour, Bryggjan is a good family option offering everything from local seafood and lamb to various pizzas. Spend three nights at Berjaya Akureyri Hotel.

Spend the day exploring the city or take an optional whale watching trip in Eyjafjordur or join a husky sledding excursion.

This evening take a transfer to Forest Lagoon, a short drive from the city centre. After your dip return by transfer to your hotel.

Enjoy a second day at leisure to explore this compact city or take head out on a excursion to visit Lake Myvatn and Godafoss waterfall, remembering to watch out for the aurora as evening descends.
