Paramo Hike, San Gerardo

3 hours | Year round

Take a hike through the ‘Paramo’, a highlands landscape that stretches across the Talamanca Mountains, offering a unique ecosystem more than 3000 metres above sea level.

Your experienced guide will drive you to the summit at Cerro de la Muerte, where you’ll begin trekking through the grassland forest. You’ll be rewarded with amazing panoramic views as you follow the continental divide and look out across both the Atlantic and the Pacific sides of the country. This largely unexplored region is home to around 32 species of mammals, including shrews, rabbits, ocelots, margays, pumas, and tapirs, as well 70 bird species and an array of high-altitude flora.

A good level of fitness is required for this intermediate hike.
