Pailas Rincon National Park Hike

Take a hike in the shadow of Rincon de la Vieja, the largest and most active volcano in the Guanacaste Cordillera.

 The renowned Las Pailas trail (3.5km) showcases a variety of landscapes, fantastic wildlife-spotting opportunities, and a glimpse of the volcano’s awesome power. Your guide will explain the history and geology of this turbulent landscape as you navigate past steaming fumaroles, bubbling mud pools, hot springs and sulphurous craters.

The diversity of flora and fauna in this UNESCO-listed national park is similarly impressive, with habitats ranging from river valleys and rainforests to tropical dry forests. An abundance of wildlife can be found here including over 300 bird species. Keep your eyes peeled for toucans, falcons, parrots, and woodpeckers, as well as butterflies, lizards, snakes, sloths, tapirs, monkeys and more.
