Don Carlos Coffee Estate Experience, Chayote Lodge

One of Costa Rica’s signature exports, coffee has been a fundamental pillar of society here for over 200 years. Known locally as the ‘golden bean’, no trip to Costa Rica is complete without finding out more about this ubiquitous part of its national identity.

This guided experience takes you to the beautiful estate of Don Carlos, where manicured gardens look out over endless coffee fields to the mountains beyond. You’ll spend a couple of hours walking through the plantation, learning about the history of the farm and its fascinating owner, as well as the process of growing, harvesting and producing coffee. And of course there’s also time to share a freshly brewed coffee with the legendary Don Carlos himself.
