Caño Negro Wildlife Cruise

2 hours | Year round

Cruise through the wetlands and rivers of Caño Negro in search of alligators, monkeys, and a staggering array of birdlife.

The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is one of the most significant wetlands in Central America. Fed by the Frio River, it’s a sanctuary for endangered species such as tapir, jaguar, puma and ocelot. More common wildlife sightings include howler, white-faced and spider monkeys, two-toed sloth, otters, bats, skunks and deer.

As you navigate the canals and waterways your naturalist guide will point out alligators, iguanas, and river turtles, as well as a wealth of birdlife. Over 350 migratory species have been recorded here, and with luck you may encounter the majestic jabiru, the prehistoric-looking anhinga or the elegant roseate spoonbill.
