Chayote Lodge, near Naranjo

The charming Chayote Lodge combines authentic local culture and unspoilt nature, with a unique architectural design paying homage to Costa Rica’s coffee heritage. From its vantage point high in the misty cloud forests near Naranjo, the lodge boasts breathtaking views towards the Poas, Barva, and Irazu volcanos, as well as the sprawling city of San Jose.

Chayote Lodge is perched 1500 metres above sea level and is surrounded by coffee plantations and agricultural land. It boasts 12 spacious and stylish bungalows, all individually designed to reflect the region’s traditional coffee receiving stations (known locally as ‘recibidores’). Each bungalow features its own private terrace, the best spot to enjoy your coffee as the sun rises over Costa Rica’s Central Valley.

In the lodge’s main building you’ll find Quelites, a fusion cuisine restaurant offering a mix of local flavours and international dishes. There’s a cosy fireplace, an outside terrace, and a lively bar that’s popular with the locals too, making it a great place to swap tales and make new friends over a drink or two.

Around the property, flower-filled gardens provide a beautiful aroma and attract colourful native birds. You can meander through the grounds, or soak it all in from the forest yoga deck. Nearby attractions include hiking trails, waterfalls, and the excellent Don Carlos Coffee Estate. Chayote is also less than an hour from the international airport, making a stay here a great choice for the start or end of your Costa Rican adventure.
