Caño Negro Natural Lodge

Located in one of the world’s most important wetlands, on the edge of the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, Natural Lodge Caño Negro offers a comfortable base from which to explore this fascinating network of waterways and lagoons.

The property is a simple, sustainable eco-lodge set amongst sprawling tropical gardens. A variety of experiences are available from the lodge, offering the chance to explore the neighbouring Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide. A dream for birders, photographers and nature-lovers alike, this incredible conservation area has recorded over 350 migratory and resident bird species. Herons, egrets, anhingas and jabiru wade at the lagoon-edge, while colourful kingfishers divebomb from the trees. Four-legged wildlife sightings may include monkey, ocelots and river otters. Explore by boat or take a hike, but don’t forget your binoculars!

Natural Lodge Caño Negro’s guest rooms each has 2 double beds, an ensuite bathroom, air-conditioning and an outside terrace overlooking the gardens. The lodge also features an inviting swimming pool with a wet bar, surrounded by swaying palm trees for a truly tropical vibe.

The strategically placed Greenhouse Restaurant proves particularly popular with birders, as it overlooks the grounds and the many feathered species that frequent the lodge. A menu curated from locally sourced ingredients caters to all tastes with a selection of both international and authentically Costa Rican dishes. The adjacent Monkey Bar offers a variety of cocktails and other beverages, ideal for a sundowner or a nightcap.
