Blabjorg Resort, East Iceland

Set in the idyllic fishing village of Bakkagerði in Borgarfjörður eystri, and surrounded by spectacular mountains, coastal landscapes and a variety of hiking trails and outdoor activities, Blabjorg is a great year-round base on Iceland’s east coast.

Once a former fish factory, today the property features a choice of accommodation options including cosy guesthouse rooms with shared facilities, new deluxe hotel rooms with private facilities and balconies overlooking the water, private studios boasting sea views, and 2- and 3-bedroom apartments ideal for families.

The resort’s Musterið Spa is the perfect place to relax after a long day hiking, with indoor and outdoor hot tubs, and Finnish, infrared and steam saunas. You can also enjoy a soak in the seaweed baths or unique beer baths!

Dining is available at the hotel’s Restaurant Frystiklefinn, which offers a tasty menu including both classic international and traditional Icelandic dishes, all homemade and using the freshest local ingredients.

Blábjörg also operates its own micro-brewery, KHB Brewery & Taproom, housed at the resort in one of the area’s oldest buildings. A guided tour or a visit to the taproom provides the chance to sample some of the produce, which includes beer, gin, and, for the brave-hearted, the traditional Icelandic moonshine Landi.
